BASOVCA Organizes 5-Day Skill Acquisition Training for OVCs and Caregivers in Bauchi State

The Bauchi State Orphans and Vulnerable Children Agency (BASOVCA), in collaboration with the Northeast Development Commission (NEDC), organized a five-day skill acquisition training from 14th to 18th April at the prestigious AMB MC ABUBAKAR OVC Technical College, Bauchi.

The program aimed at empowering Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) and their caregivers across Bauchi State under the visionary leadership of the Executive Chairperson, Haj. Yelwa Abubakar Balewa (Rumfar Marayu), and the administration of His Excellency, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed CON (Kauran Daular Usmaniya), the training was designed to equip participants with vital entrepreneurial skills for self-reliance.

The Executive Chairperson, in her opening remarks, expressed her gratitude to Almighty Allah for the opportunity to witness such a significant occasion. She emphasized that the initiative targets poverty alleviation and societal upliftment, especially for the OVCs.

Participants were trained in various skills, including Tailoring, Shoe Making, Soap Making, Hairdressing, Barbing, and Catering. A total of 112 beneficiaries were selected from all 20 LGAs across the state. Upon completion, each participant received a starter pack and a certificate from the Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity to kickstart their businesses.

The Executive Chairperson also extended her heartfelt appreciation to the Executive Governor and his Dear wife, Hajiya Dr. Aishatu Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed (Sarauniyan Bauchi), for their unwavering commitment to improving the lives of OVCs. She equally acknowledged the dedication of the Supervising Commissioner, Haj. Zainab Baban Takko.

Speaking on behalf of the NEDC, the commission’s representative lauded BASOVCA for its proactive submissions and encouraged further engagement for broader support. He advised participants to make diligent use of the opportunity, become self-sufficient, and extend the knowledge gained to others in their communities.

Comrade Dauda M. Shu’aibu, representing the NLC, praised both BASOVCA and NEDC for the commendable initiative. He acknowledged that BASOVCA is being supported through deductions from civil servants and politicians and appreciated the Governor’s approval of the new minimum wage in the state.

Also present was Alhaji Abdullahi M. Inuwa (Ajiyan Kobi), Chairman of the State OVC League, who applauded the Governor for his consistent backing of the agency and commended the leadership of Haj. Yelwa Abubakar for her tireless service. He urged participants to seize the golden opportunity to build a better future.

The First Lady Hajiya Dr. Aishatu Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed (Sarauniyan Bauchi) ably represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Child Development, commended the collaboration that birthed the training and encouraged beneficiaries to use the starter packs wisely. She highlighted the importance of skills acquisition for economic independence and urged participants to remain law-abiding and productive citizens.
