Former President Goodluck Jonathan has lamented the abandonment of projects initiated during his tenure as Governor of Bayelsa State.
Speaking at the commissioning of the Best Western Plus Hotel, a new world-class hospitality facility at Oxbow Lake, in Yenagoa, on Wednesday, Jonathan attributed the problem to the lack of continuity in projects by successive administrations.
Jonathan recounted his efforts to encourage private investment in the hospitality sector during his tenure as governor, including providing financial support to hoteliers to enhance their facilities.
However, many of these loans went unpaid, and the projects were subsequently abandoned after he left office.
He added, “That is the problem of government; when a governor leaves, the next governor doesn’t want to follow up. Most of the money spent will go.”
He emphasized the need for continuity and commitment to development projects.
The hotel’s Executive Director, Mrs. Initeme Aduke-Eromhonsele, and founder, Dr. Harcourt Aduke, described the facility as a blend of elegance, comfort, and modern convenience.
They noted that the hotel offers breathtaking lakefront views of the Oxbow Lake, creating a serene and scenic environment for guests.
Governor Douye Diri commended the hotel’s owner for investing in Bayelsa State’s economy and creating employment opportunities for the youth.
He described the project as a landmark development that would boost the state’s hospitality sector and contribute to community development.
