In a bid to enhance child protection and curb the rising menace of child abuse, drug use, and other social vices affecting vulnerable children, the Bauchi State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has pledged stronger collaboration with the Bauchi State Orphans and Vulnerable Children Agency (BASOVCA).
The strategic visit, led by RM Moses of the NSCDC, aimed at forging a synergy between the two institutions to protect the rights and welfare of orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) across the state. RM Moses underscored the importance of safeguarding children, especially within school environments, against all forms of exploitation and abuse. She highlighted the significance of security awareness and education as vital tools in preventing sexual and child exploitation.
The team was received by the executive Chairperson Hajiya Yelwa Abubakar Balewa alongside Director Admin and Human resources Alh. Ahmed Kawulle Aliya (DAHR), Alh. Abdu Bala (DFA), staff officer and all HODs of the various departments.
The Executive Chairperson of BASOVCA, Hajiya Yelwa Abubakar Balewa, appreciated the NSCDC for the visit and expressed her commitment to working closely with security agencies to protect the rights of vulnerable children in Bauchi State. She noted that such partnerships are crucial in addressing the multifaceted challenges faced by OVCs.
On her part, RM Rose of the NSCDC reiterated the benefits of the collaboration, particularly in combating discrimination and enhancing the protection of children living with disabilities. She emphasized the presence of a disability unit within the command to address such concerns and assured that the NSCDC is fully open to sustained collaboration.
Also speaking, the Head of Child Protection at BASOVCA acknowledged the vital role the agency plays in addressing child abuse cases. She cited a recent case that was resolved through the agency’s collaboration with the Department of State Services (DSS), noting that an expanded partnership with the NSCDC would provide even greater security backing in the fight to protect children’s rights.
RM Rose concluded the visit by expressing gratitude to BASOVCA for the warm reception and reaffirmed the NSCDC’s readiness to work side by side with the agency in safeguarding the future of Bauchi’s children.
